All good points. As someone who's been lucky enough to get 3 papers into Analysis, I'd add: make it interesting enough to follow for someone who has never dug deeply into the topic, but precise and convincing enough for someone who already has. The only way to do this briefly is to not waste words: situate, make your point(s), and show why it matters. Done.
