I did once something comparable, since I was at a conference with job-talks with my son, who was 6 months old, since I was exclusively breastfeeding him. My husband came with me and the whole experience was quite fun. Most people found it weird but I did get a temporary fellowship (I was very young at that point, just at the end of my PhD). The positive thing was that everyone remembered me ---which was quite positive whenever I needed to write to them or to submit papers to their journals, conferences or the like.

Check out the "academic mamas" group on facebook. People tend to have great advice for navigating this sort of thing.
