I would like to encourage everyone to submit a proposal to the second go-round of Experiment Month. Here is the official description of the initiative:
The experiment month initiative encourages philosophers to develop and submit original ideas for new experimental studies. Students and professors who wish to submit a proposal for experiment month are invited to contact the experiment month staff for feedback and suggestions before submitting.
A team of philosophers and psychologists will select the most promising of these proposals to be included in experiment month. Then, the experiment month staff will run the selected studies online, collect the resulting data, and help out with statistical analysis.
I can hardly begin to express how wonderful of an opportunity this is. I submitted a proposal last year -- having little to no previous experience with experimental philosophy -- and the studies the XMonth folk helped me to design have already yielded me two publications and a long-term research program (for some other success stories, see here!). If anyone has any questions, feel free to post them below in the comments -- I will answer ASAP.
Note: the deadline for submissions is June 15th. Send proposals to: [email protected]
Marcus, thanks for this post. Indeed, I am planning to submit a proposal, actually I have a couple of ideas.
How did you proceed when you came across the Experiment Month initiative? Did you have concrete ideas and just submitted them, or did you have a rather vague idea and contacted the people from EM before? As the experiments are mainly run online I guess that you can take part from anywhere in the world, right?
In any case, thank you for your help!

Hi Andreas, here's what I did to the best of my memory. I put together a one-page outline explaining the basic ideas behind the experiment. I then sent that outline to the EM people, asking for their help or feedback. They gave me some tips. I then turned it into a full proposal. If you'd like to take a look at the proposal I eventually sent them, I'm be happy to forward it to you. Just send me an email at [email protected] -- best of luck with it!
